Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I am a 27 year mother of 4. I am the baby girl and for years I have lived right under my parents. For 10 years I was married to a man who mistreated me and our children but my parents always told me to stay with him. 2 years ago I finally got the courage to leave and my parents flipped. I had absolutely no help with my kids not even from my parents. I decided To move away but during that time I met a man who was willing to except me and my kids. Yes he has some flaws but who doesn't. My parents were fine with him until they found out we were moving. But we needed to, They were constantly in my business. They were spreading all my business to everyone. Now that we have moved my.mom has been mean and spreading lies and making up illnesses to get me to move back. How do I get my parents to understand I love them but also wanna life of my own?

from my life experience, my parents blamed me and spread rumors about me. Because it is easier to blame somebody else than look inside at your own heart and realise that you may be at fault.
You may never get your parents to understand you, they aren't being horrible, it just may be their upbringing that you have to stay with a man for life.
Their reaction to you moving out, may be that they miss you x
Their advice certainly wasn't stellar to tell you to stay with your ex and staying with them would be as bad as staying with him. Good luck and wishing you much happiness with your new life.
