Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I feel you. Last August, when we dropped off my only child to college, that night I was in deep sadness. I thought I was ready but it was really hard. My house was so quiet. I was so lonely that I cannot even describe how sad I was. It was overwhelming. I cried a lot. I felt so alone even though my husband is with me and supporting me.
I decided to post in one of the online support groups, I poured out everything knowing that no one will judge me. I received many comforting comments and helped me to feel better. It’s been months since my son left, thank God, I am doing great. We communicate everyday and visit him in the weekends if possible.
Thank you for sharing. I know how you feel, please know that you are not alone. Continue to share. It took me a while to get to where I am now, volunteering, doing things I enjoy, my life group are a big contribution to my healing. I hope you will get the support you need. I pray that you will be surrounded by God’s peace and comfort everyday. Keep us posted.
