Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
Im sorry you had to go through that alone. I wish I knew the perfect words to ease your pain, but we are pretty much in the same boat except my son is not married to his girlfriend. I know after I have a good cry, I feel like I can make it through a little longer. What was your sons response ?? Here is a thought, any chance you could go out to lunch with your daughter in laws mother and keep the conversation light, but brush over your feelings of how you miss your son? Or ask her if she has ever gone thru this...? I would definetly keep it light though. Maybe if you can get a lil closer with her family , it may lead to better times ahead! Im here for you...
I did talk to my son tonight and he said he feels like he's in the middle but at the end of the day, he'll do what makes his wife happy.
Mirenda, you are not alone in your feelings. I guess we'll all need to take it one day at a time.

I had a visit with my son yesterday. It was great. I hugged him like he had just returned from war.
He wants to keep a full time job and go to school full time so that he can get an apartment now with his girlfriend.. I told him that he would burn out and needs to work part time if he will be in school but he is needing money. She has a kid and can't work full time etc. He is just a baby too, only 21 and looks like he's taking on the world for her. It makes me sad.
Last night my son came home and invited couple of his best friends he grew up with to watch football game. It felt so so good to have them all here, just like old times.
Wow,your son is taking on the world. Its very admirable of him, but you are right...it will wear him down. Sadly, its not in our hands anymore. All you can do is give him emotion support and guidance. And keep talking with us to get you through the tough moments. I really hope it all works out for him...his heart is in right place, but he so young to take all this on.
