Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I have felt sad, alone, no purpose, no confidence ever since my son moved out. I didn't even know he was thinking about moving out and got an email because of a credit check. that was how I learned of his plans. I was very hurt by that but he said he wanted to be able to tell me how he was going to manage on his own since he was still in college, etc. I never thought I would feel the way I do either. I don't feel like I matter, that I could be gone and he wouldn't even notice. My husband says that isn't true but ....... I have good days and then bad days. Right now I feel bad because my son had to work last weekend and we hardly saw him and this weekend he is going to help his roommate move the roommate's sister who is "after" my son. She has emotional issues which involve men and one time she told him she didn't trust him and that he had invaded her "safe space". That was after she had asked him to visit her. I just do not want him to be around her. Anyway, my husband also just ignores me some times which doesn't help the way I feel either. I don't have any words of wisdom == except prayer. I need to pray more when I feel this way. I plan on going to the new movie coming out this weekend, War Room. I hope it will help us. I also know I need to find some interests outside of my home and also need to leave my job. My job also depresses me greatly and contributes to my feelings of worthlessness since we are going through a big reorganization. It helps me to read of others who at least feel this way. I don't feel so alone then. sorry I can't be of more help.
I feel your pain! My youngest is sixteen and busy all the time. I feel so alone. I'm single. I just started therapy again but it's going very slowly and I feel awful. If you want to email back and forth you can email me anytime at writetopeoplearoundtheworld@gmail.com and I will answer. Maybe we can encourage each other. Life has to get better!
