Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
My son, whom I am extremely proud of, will be moving into the dorms on August 18th. I am so stressed about who I am without him. He is my very best friend. This is causing me to rethink how I feel about my marriage, my job, my home. I want him to go to college and be happy and successful, but in the same breath, I want him to stay home with me forever (not really). Every time I think that I am one day closer to his leaving, I want to cry. I am trying to spend as much time as possible with him in fun ways this summer as to create lasting memories. I know he is not dying, but I am still grieving my loss.
