Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
Mapping out a plan is one of the best ways to go about it.
Here, typically, kids go to the Community College which costs next to nothing. They get a specific skill related to their career goals.
For example, someone wanting to study medicine goes through a shorter medical program to be trained as a Medical Assistant or paramedic. It gives them some experience in their field as well.
They finish up two years of classes and then work in their field while they're going to medical school. They take the classes they can when they can and work through that way.
A lot of them can get scholarships after they've finished the shorter program because they've proven they're serious.
Mostly, I think it's critical that they know what they want to study and get into the right program for that. Speaking with people doing that work, shadowing them for a day, learning all they can about it and sitting in on a couple of classes and speaking with professors can be good ways to do that. Nothing worse than having 12 years of education, staggering debt and then finding you hate the field you decided to go into!
