this article is about a british mom who admits to a) hating her own body b) binge eating c) fearing her 8 year old will be "fat" and d) limiting her daughter's calorie intake.
i am bringing this up not to upset anyone, but to start a conversation. this article reminded me of how my mom encouraged me to diet as a teenager, and it got me thinking about some things. how much influence do our parents have on the develpment of ED's? how much of the eating disorder is mimickry, when your parents or other family members have body image/food issues? and, more importantly, how do we keep the next generation from repeating our mistakes?

Wow, what a sad article. Even if this little girl does not end up with a full blown eating disorder, she will probably struggle with food and body image. I hate that she just says if her daughter gets an eating disorder it's okay because she can just go to therapy. I don't think that my parents had an influence on my ED in the same way as this girl's mom. My mother never restricted food or dieted or anything, but I think other family issues have definitely influenced me. I think that parents need to be aware of the messages that they send to their kids about food and weight. Even if the parents aren't straight up telling their kids to lose weight, if they themselves are very preoccupied with food and weight, I'm guessing their kids would probably be more likely to turn to that as a coping mechanism.

This mother is nuts and I can't believe social services aren't taking her daughter away from her for neglect and child endangerment.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
