hey all-i sent another revision of the EDNOS article to pegi (my writing teacher) in june. aside from some revisions on my works cited, she said it was pretty much ready to go. so because i didn't feel like diving into a brand new 1,000 some odd word story (my next assignment), i started looking online for decent teen magazines to send it to.

i found this AMAZING one called "teen voices".instead of focusing on fluff, "teen voices" focuses on things teens really care about: the enviornment, social issues, college prep, other teens making a difference in the world. it's different than any other magazine for teenagers i've ever seen. i love it. so i e-mailed the editor thursday.

My name is Fallon Kunz. I am wondering what your policy is on publishing older writers. I am 23 years old, but I am very interested in publishing a particular article in your magazine. I wrote an informative, 1,040 word article on EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) for my distance learning writing course. I am very interested in getting this published because I feel it is a vital topic that is largely ignored in our society. Has your magazine explored this topic before?



I chose this topic for my writing assignment because this is the diagnosis I recieved last summer. When I began to tell my friends and family, I often got responses like "What's that?" I want to use this article to educate others-specifically teenage girls. My article is well-researched, but also relatable because I draw from personal experience. I believe it will be very beneficial to the readers of Teen Voices. An early draft was also posted on my online support group. Could it still be published in your magazine?



I began my behaviors in the 6th grade. At the time, the only eating disorders being discussed in school were Anorexia and Bulemia. I thought I was "fine", since I didn't fit those disorders. Over the years, my eating disorder began to slowly and steadily get worse, untill one day I didn't want to eat at all. That's when I knew something was wrong. By this point, I was 21, and I had lived with EDNOS for about 10 years. I never want another person to have to suddenly "wake up" in the middle of an illness like this and have to fix something they've had all their life. Kids should be educated about all eating disorders-not just the ones the public has the most knowledge about.

In general, we do not publish pieces by older writers, with the exception of our editorial assistants, who are college-aged interns. That said, I would be interested in reading your piece to see if we can use it in some other way (maybe weave it into an article on eating disorders, etc.).
