I dont know how you exercise off your binges but aerobic exercise isnt really the answer here. Im sure you know you can hardly find enough hours to consume the energy of a binge by running for example. Youre also going to get tired and run down. Id tend to encourage weight training if you can do that without it getting out of hand and you manage to eat enough to fuel your training. A social activity that you do mainly for fun might help you. Do you have any possibility to play tennis, squash or badminton? Dance, paddling, climbing...? It would be good to find the pleasure and fun in exercise without thinking about calorie burning.
It's a horrid horrid place to be in eh and so tormenting!
Unfortunately the excess exercise just keeps the whole cycle of the binge/purge mentality going full-on. That's what I found anyways. I had to come to that very painful yet honest place where I looked at what I was doing with food and to my body, the one and only one I'll ever have, and I had to admit it wasn't working but was self-destructive and caused me so much inner pain and shame that the self-hatred just grew and grew.
I still struggle at times with being at the recovery weight I''m at now.
Even over Easter weekend I battled some stinking thinking over body/weight/size when I had a bad flare-up of the pain condition I have and had to rest for 2 days with no exercise. Felt sick, in pain and "fed up". But today I "talked myself off the ledge" and went for a gentle, self-loving (ie not punishing) walk. Yes I'm still in pain and still feel crappy (nausea) but I choose not to make things worse.
Different times of the year tend to trigger me, esp. long holiday weekends when others tend to do the "family get together thing". This brings up the "loss of my family" pain.
Gaining weight is scary but it's also the road to wellness and sanity.
Hard but true... take care and don't give up. Try to gentle with yourselves....
