So I am enrolled in an Introduction to Personality class. It is a lot of fun, we study many past psychologist and their theories on personalities. Well I am currently studying Karen Horney and we have an assignment that I am having a hard time with. She has "neurological needs" within her theory and we have to state how we personally satisfy each need. It's just an exercise but it gets us to think about how she formed these ideas and used them within her theory.
My point in posting this is that I feel I satisfy a lot of these needs through my ED. I don't know if I feel comfortable with saying this on the assignment. I could just as easily lie but that sad part is that I can't even think of an alternate response right now. My thoughts keep listening to what ED wants to respond to. Here are the "neurotic needs" and maybe I could get some suggestions. I just don't know what to do with this one.
1. The need for affection and approval
2. The need for a partner (love will solve all one's problems)
3. The need to restrict one's life to narrow borders ( satisfy with little, simplify life when it gets too stressful)
4. The need for power (control over others, seek strength)
5. The need to exploit others (be better than others)
6. The need for social recognition (like to be appreciated)
7. The need for personal admiration (need to feel important yourself)
8. The need for personal achievement (have to be number one)
9. The need for self sufficiency (independence- never need anybody)
10. The need for perfection (driven to be perfect and scared of being flawed)
So those are the needs and after reading them you can see how much they can be related to ED. I hate to ask but if I could just get ideas, I don't know how to answer these without involving ED. Thanxs a bunch!

Most of those needs can be used in a positive way or I see them as normal in life. With an ed they are distorted into something else. Why not try focusing on the positive to all these things (1-10) and write about that. I think it would be better for you to write about these things in a more positive aspect. We all have the need to have a partner, affection and love, ect. It doesnt have to be bad, just human nature. It looks as if you are taking these 10 and taking it to a more extreme level, how about bringing it down to a so called "normal" level. and then add how each one can be taken to an abnormal level.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
