I don't eat much during the day, have a very light breakfast and I have to force it, a bar at lunch, no snacks in between and no dinner until late, 8:30-9 and that I do because it is a comfort to me then. however I feel o overeat then, Greek yogurt with fruit and lots of granola, so much you wouldn't know I had yogurt. I get so full yet I keep thinking about eati ng more, it takes control over my mind and I can think of nothing else. last night I felt gross, I had bought nuts and ate so many after the yogurt, though I did have less granola. I just cant stand this roller coaster. when on vacation I wouldn't allow myself to try anything new, just simple side salads. I have over did it physically this vacation and I need to rest and try to get in order. I just cant stand it anymore, yet I am not doing anything to help myself. my cousin that we met with on vacation said how well I looked and I am at the lowest weight I have been, though in range. that triggered me in a way, had to push it aside. I know people that are in recovery and know what I need to do but just cant. :(

I hope you feel better soon. I understand the struggle of warring with food. Thinking of you :)

Just wondering - could you break away from the granola and yogurt-type evening meal and try something completely different - scrambled eggs, baked fish. chill con carn (or sin carn) - something savoury and more defined as a portion - or maybe some ready meal if you dont feel like cooking? I suspect eating very little during the day makes you crave carbs (granola) but maybe more traditional "meals" would help satisfy you too. I know - its not easy to break habits but just an idea!

Hey ann, wow I totally know what you are going through, because I do the same thing-- I deprive myself during the day and then at night I overdo it, partly because I am hungry and partly out of rebellion. I overwork myself physically too, to the point where my nutritionist has advised me to cut back on going to the gym. I know it can be rough to do what you know you must do to care for yourself, especially when people (however well-meaning) make comments like the ones you described... what I am doing is just trying to filter out comments like that and doubts I may have, and just focus on what I know is best for me. Trust me it's tough, but I find that the more I do it, the more automatic it becomes. Thinking of you :-)

thank you all. Kathy I go through these phases where I will eat the same thing for dinner for months then switch. I actually eat the same thing during the day every day. I find the fear of eating a normal meal, even a healthy one will put weight on, I am stayin g where I am eating what I have. I actually cut way back on the granola, didn't bring the box in. the fear makes no sence and yes I don't like to cook. you ideas are great and so very true, I just have to do it.

I can't remember where I saw or read this, but is it possible that in addition to the traditional ED's, you may have one where you eat the same foods all the time and have phobias (or come close to) about trying new foods? I'm like that, I'm terrified of trying new foods, not because I'll gain weight, but that I might be allergic or they may make me have a surprise attack of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) with diarrhea. I don't remember the treatment that was mentioned, but I think it had something to do with exposure therapy, where you are introduced to a new food at your own pace in increments til you're ready to actually eat the food and it goes on from there. I think counseling could help with this, but I don't know if I will mention ED at all to my new counselor this month. I've gone through phases of restricting, BED, and then back again. Good luck. While you think the fears are unfounded or silly, they aren't, they need to be dealt with, with a safe person or group like this one that you trust. :)

As Kathy suggested, I think eating some protein like eggs or chicken etc would be more beneficial because carbs particularly late in the day aren't satisfying enough. Restricting through the day will also create more and more cravings and that "ravenous" feeling where you start eating and can't stop. Restricting for so long over the year messed up my satiety levels and they had to recover. It takes time but is possible. Eating the same thing over and over can also cause more cravings because we need variety of different foods and nutrients. If I ate the same thing every day I'd feel like frustrated. Try to experiment with some different foods and flavours; have fun with it if you can.
