I discovered yesterday that a girl (let's call her K :] ) I thought I knew fairly well was in hospital two years ago with anorexia. I was surprised, because, though this might sound ignorant, I wasn't aware that there were any other anoretics in my year group. I know a few bulimia sufferers but no one else with AN. I asked another girl about her today, asking if she was "okay now" (I didn't want to upset K by asking her if she had put it all behind her). Anyway, my friend v graphically told me that "she's recovered but she won't be able to have children because her ovaries have rotted away". Honest to god I nearly had another panic attack shortly after, n I've not had one of those in ages. I don't want to frighten anyone else, but I was hoping that someone on here could maybe explain to me if this is possible.
I've been trying to research it on the net and the closest I've come is polycystic ovaries, which sound pretty different. Some websites suggest going on the contraceptive pill to regain periods and reduce the risk of long term damage, but others say this doesn't work... can anyone give me any more definite answers?
