I'm not in your shoes as to why you're going through this, even though i've went through the same problems with food myself. I'm not a therapist in any way, and i actually know nothing of people's minds and attitudes towards food expect my own, but it seems to me that for what happened in your past, you punished yourself. Not with alcohol or drugs, but with food. You already know this im sure, but what you maybe dont know, is how to forgive yourself and let yourself see food for what it is, instead of what you've been using it as, a shield, and your punishment.
I dont know how you would do that. When i realized what i had been doing, i was able to in time let it go, then overcome the basic craving and impulses i had developed. Maybe you should speak to someone about your past, how its changed the way you treat food, and what steps you take to changing your view on food, and getting it from an answer to problems, back to simply fuel for your body.
Theres no point in understanding nutrition if your mind is blocking out some of the most simple answers.
I hope this helped a bit, and welcome x
I have worked with therapists in the past for different issues and I have just begun to work with one again. I have told him that it is something I need and want to work on because it is a matter of health and being able to enjoy life. Old copings skills need to be changed I guess.
