I had the priviledge of meeting the present Miss America last night. Her platform is eating disorders awareness and she spoke at a function near my home. She talked about her personal struggle with Anorexia which started when she was 13. She was a ballerina and started at that age to equate thinness with success. She stood up there looking healthy, beautiful, successful, and well, ..."perfect." However, she said she is anything but. She stated that she is just plain Kirsten, and that perfection doesn't exist. Her idea of happiness is being comfortable with who you are and being true to yourself. She seems to be doing really well in recovery and had such a wonderful message to share. I wish you all could have heard her. I just wanted to let you know if you were unaware, that she's out there spreading the word of recovery and eating disorder awareness. :-)
