Stress, even positive stress like planning a wedding, can be a trigger for any of us to fall back into old habits...Most of us use our ED as a coping mechanism and it sounds like that's what you are doing also. You mentioned that you have never completely stopped purging and that suggests to me that there might be some underlying issues that you might need to work on so you can fully recover. I might suggest working with a therapist to help you get through this time and also to work through some of the root issues of your ED.
Welcome to the group!
I do want to find a professional again, but I don't want my family to know about this.
Thank you again so much for responding!

I personally do not like when therapists/doctors say it's a control issue. I don't believe this. Plus it puts all the blame on the person who is struggling with the ED and God knows we don't need that piled on to everything else we deal with...right? I agree with Sonny that it's a coping mechanism and if you heal the root cause you will heal the ED.
LuckyEmpath; I do understand what you are saying about the control thing. As you said, maybe it is more of a coping mechanism. When I'm overwhelmed, purging makes me feel better. I think part of it too is that lately when I do eat, my stomach feels like it's going to explode, even if it is a little. It's painful and the only release is purging.
Kward; I've done the medicine thing as well. Another thing that used to help me was going to a public place as I never wanted to purge anywhere else, but when I got older It didn't work as well.
I will try thinking of it as fuel instead of something bad, thank you for suggesting that!
Layla; thank you so much! :)
My family, save my husband whom I hadn't met yet in my teenage years, knows I struggled with an eating disorder. My mom was with me through everything. Hospital visits, abnormal EKGs, fainting spells, low weights, crying fits, ect. She's just so proud of me right now and I'm frightened of letting her down.
At first it was about weight for me. Now I purge because I am afraid I will gain weight from the comfort I just consumed. I guess like you, I'm trying to maintain my weight. I feel like I'm constantly living on edge. I'm just waiting for the moment my secret slips.
You are so lucky to have a supportive family. If your mom went through all of that with you, do you think she would understand a relapse?
