I've suffered from pretty much all the ED's in the book- anorexia, bulimia, BED, COE. Of COURSE you're not the only one who gets trapped in the cycle of eating to feel better- that's the nature of the disease!
It's about so much more than food, and your therapist should be working with you to find things in your life that make you want to expand your interests and live with joy before you address the food issue. Otherwise there is no motivation to stop, and the cycle will continue.
Welcome to the ED board, and hopefully being here will help you to sort out your head a bit!
it's so helpful to know that i'm not the only one.
thank you :)
I came away with a packet of info for newcomers, read it, and was struck by their perspective on recovery. It doesn't have to be this big, scary thing. Just look at it one bite at a time. When you notice yourself about to take that first compulsive bite, think about what you're giving up. You're giving up your power over your mind and your body. Each compulsive bite you refuse makes it easier and easier. Until I read that pamphlet, I was looking at my recovery as a big, scary force, but if you break it down into much, much smaller pieces, it's so much easier to take it a step at a time. Welcome to DS.
i've seen that the books i've purchased have been shipped so i'm waiting for those and i'm anxious to look up those online resources.
this is a much more positive experience with support! all too often i get stuck in thinking that the world just judges me, without realizing that there are people who are going through the same thing. that isolation was killing me.
i put a little note on my computer reminding myself to treat myself kindly. the meaner i am to myself, the bigger i get. it wasn't working. i'm trying to come from a place of love rather than fear.
i'm grateful for you who are sharing your experiences. and thank you for not judging me. i knew in my head you wouldn't but it sometimes gets the better of me. :)
