(I dont normally count calories but a couple of years back I monitored my energy/macronutrient intake for a week - just out of interest. I found I was consuming about 2600 cal/day and Im neither particularly tall nor am I overweight)
Like Kathy said, 1200-1500 calories a day is for a weight LOSS diet. Your body uses about 1200 calories a day just to keep you alive (heart beating, muscles working, etc), even if you weren't to move around at all. Just to give you some perspective, I was eating around 3450 calories a day when I was in treatment, and I was basically on bedrest, and even then I didn't gain weight super quickly.
I know the idea of upping your calories seems scary, but if you do it in smaller bits, it seems easier. Are you working with a dietitian at all? How about a therapist? Maybe you can set some goals to increase slowly...maybe add 100 calories a week, or whatever feels right. But remember, it is going to be tough...recovering is tough because you have to go against everything your eating disorder mind is telling you to do. But I promise you it is worth it.
I'm not a dietitian or anything, but if you want some suggestions/help increasing calories easily, I can offer you some help if you want to message me. You can do this! I believe in you!
Perhaps you could try to make a point of having a snack between meals. If "fattening" food feels frightening how about apples or bananas between meals for starters....?
How about trying to get more healthy oils in your diet e.g. salmon/sardines, avocado, nuts, oil in salad dressings... Eggs could be good too since theyre "portion sized".
