My eating disorder started when I was 16 with restricting. After about a year in a half it turned into bulimia. I was bulimic for 5 + years and went to a residential treatment facility. Long story short when I got out of treatment it turned into binge eating disorder. I am feeling so defeated and hopeless about my binge eating. I have tried to stop for years and I can't. I eat to the point of feeling so completely sick and with the fear that I will die of a heart attack one day from being so fat. I wish I could figure out how to eat like a normal person. Every time I try to eat healthy it turns into restricting and then goes right back to binge eating. I know it's a cycle and I know that when I restrict, I will go back to binging but it's a cycle I can't seem to break and I'm scared of eating myself to death.

I'm so sorry to read about how you're suffering. I have some of the same trouble with cycling between restricting and bingeing. Unfortunately, I don't have any answers to share except to suggest that you seek support from a therapist and a dietitian who specialize in eating disorders--and I know it's not always feasible to do that, but if it is, even for a while, it can really help. Mainly, I just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone.

Thank you. It's good to know I'm not alone. I can't afford a dietitian and I have had one in the past who told me she couldn't help me. I'm having a hard time finding a therapist who specializes in eating disorders.

I'm sorry you have been stuck in this cycle... unfortunately, I know what it feels like to eat so much it hurts. You might know this already, but I've been told that binge eating can be caused by a couple things, and understanding the cause might help understand how to get out of it. First, something else underlying the need to binge, such as anxiety, boredom, fear, etc. If you are experiencing any of these feelings before the binge, maybe it would help to reflect on ways to cope with the feelings, such as going on a walk. I know, easier said than done. The other thing causing the binge could be your body literally being in starvation mode from the restrictions, and needing the calories. Although it can feel good to restrict, it's a terrible feeling when we have to binge to make up for our body's hunger. It's healthier and easier to lose weight by eating consistently. I hope this helps...
