I have gotten over that long phase but I was basically into my forties before I began to feel content with my life. There were many things involved - changes in circumstances, therapy (afterwards I see benefits I didnt see when I was in it), medication, new hobbies - but I never did get the career under way and have mostly been unemployed and poor.
I cant unfortunately say what would help you. I would if I could because I dont want other people wasting so many years of their lives as I did. Its a good thing that you state that staying sick is not an option for you because you want to live. Thats really positive. Meanwhile do focus on enjoying everything good you can appreciate - walking in the sunshine/morning coffee/music.... Even if the big picture looks sad there are always little things to enjoy. Hugs!
I'm sorry you've felt the same way, but it gives me hope to know I'm not the only one to feel this way, and that things can get better. I think maybe to some extent, everyone in their teens/20s feels lost and unsure of themselves, regardless whether they have a mental illness. It just seems like everyone around me is happy and living their lives, but I guess I don't know what's going on inside their minds.
Thanks for the reminder about appreciating the little things. I definitely try to do that. I've been keeping a sort of "gratitude journal" just for this purpose, but I need to try to write in in more often than I have been.
Thanks so much again for listening. It means a lot. Take good care.
