I have had disordered eating habits for awhile and have struggled with restricting my food intake when feeling anxious and depressed. I was extremely underweight in the winter, and had to quit college because I was so unwell. I managed to gain some weight over the spring/summer, but now I am afraid I am going to lose it all. A medication I was on and have now stopped taking is causing me very bad nausea and some stomach upset. I am not vomiting or anything, but the nausea is unreal. I have 0 appetite, and thinking of food makes me feel sick. I have been trying to eat whatever sounds appealing (soups, pudding, yogurt, eggs and toast, bananas, etc), but I am going on a week of feeling this way, and it is not improving. I have not weighed myself, but am scared I am losing weight, and all the hard work I did to gain will be wasted. I know there are no magical answers to this, but does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Any advice for eating enough when feeling nauseous/sick to your stomach?
Thank you so much for your time.

since your nausea is that bad i would talk to your doctor and see if they can give you a medication to stop or reduce the nausea...i'm on one for when my migraines give me nausea.....could you be nauseous because you don't have food and/or water in your system??? i would push the fluids, especially water.....as for food, try bland things....rice, toast, crackers, dry cereal, maybe make a peanut butter sandwich.....you need protein, so eggs are good too....maybe a handful of nuts or something......cheese too.....if the nausea persists and you really can't stand it and you still can't eat call your doctor and explain the issue.....hope this helped....feel free to message me

There are a lot of nausea meds your doc can prescribe, just using one as an example is Zofran. As for eating when you feel so nauseous, can you drink easier than you eat? Sometimes it's easier for me to drink calories when I'm sick from my medications. Have you tried the dreaded Ensure or Boost drinks, they have the lower calorie ones now. So I would suggest those. I wouldn't recommend any soda, other than maybe 7-up or Ginger Ale, for nausea. Also what valgal said, if you're dehydrated, that can make you feel sick too, esp. in hot weather. Try not to get overheated. Another possibility--did you stop the drug in question suddenly? If so, you may be in withdrawal, may temporarily need to go back on it and then carefully wean off of it and try again. I hope this helps.

Thank you both so much for your suggestions, valgal and Electropro. If I continue to feel this way, I will definitely call my doctor and see about a medication for the nausea. Also, thank you for the reminder about drinking and staying hydrated. Ensures are definitely an option. I have had them many times before and think they actually taste pretty good. I really appreciate all the suggestions.

I agree with what the others have said, just make sure you're getting your nutrients in. If that means 3-5 ensures a day because you can't tolerate food, do it. Holy cow I should be saying this to myself. Why is it so much easier to give advice than to follow it? But really, I think its good you're aware that this can really lead to weight loss and your ED can take over. Please see your doc about the nausea med, and try eating small frequent snacks til you can work your way up to meals. It is SO SO hard when there is no appetite. I'm sorry you're struggling right now. Keep posting. The people here seem to truly care and are such a great support. You're not alone!
