I am currently a 3rd year student on hiatus, but I'm majoring in nutrition (in order to become a dietitian). The recommendation to make the duration of your physical activity easier is to consume a snack that is about 150 calories (with carbohydrates) around 1.5 hours before exercising, as well as plenty of water (so you won't become dehydrated). Afterwards, you should have another 150-calorie snack (with carbs). However, if you are a regular athlete, and exercise any more than 30 minutes to 1 hour for the sport you are playing, you need to be talking to a dietitian about a high-carb/high-protein diet that will protect you against "female athlete triad." (See this link for more info about it: http://kidshealth.org/teen/food_fitness/sports/triad.html)
