Changing a diet that is easy to live with is a challenge. No need to try anything radical. Sounds as though youre not dangerously underweight (if youre average height) so I guess its OK to concentrate on keeping up the basic eating while you go through family issues and your return to a new job. Then you can try and make small changes!
I like the term "baby steps"... perhaps today try and change just one small thing. Feel the fear but try and face it and move forward some... I've found in recovery that my feelings, although needful to acknowledge, regarding the ED could not be trusted. I had to choose, as an act of my will, to take action which my "wise self" (a DBT term) knew would be helpful, not hurtful to me.
Yes re cooking - cooking for me is always a chore. I am married and my husband (a "normal" eater) needs good tasty satisfying food so it encourages me to take care of myself too. My mother was a professional in food industry for years, and amazing cook etc but as children whatever we did was never good enough. As a result, I hate cooking with a passion!!!.... and call myself the "anti-cook"! Ha! But there is a middle ground. I remember as a severe anorexic feeling that cooking for someone else would be the worst thing ever and I wondered how I would cope; the smell of cooking used to make me feel sick. Now I see it as a way I can daily do something nice for my hubby and I which we can share together. Its taken a long journey to get here.
Sorry your knee's hurting; can sympathise!! Have dodgy knees too.
Rest well and take good care...
Kim.
