Hi there everyone. I've joined this group becuase I've developed some issues with food that have kind of always been there, but have recently become very intense.
I wouldn't know whether or not to say this is ED, but there is definately something not right with me and food, and it is having a very negative affect on me, especially with the holiday (as with lots of you, i've read).
Here's an example. On Christmas, I baked brownies for fun. Super rich brownies with chocolate chips and fudge icing. I ate so many. Went to the family's for Christmas eve, ate dinner and more junk. Came home and ate like five more brownies! Wasn't hungry. Eating more was to the point of pain in my stomache and yet I kept eating for some reason I can't determine. I felt so sick and awful after the constant sugar overdose all day that I made myself throw up. It usually doesn't come to this point. Usually I simply binge but don't throw up. But I had a need to do it simply to feel better. I couldn't beleive my lack of control!
I'll swear to myself and God to cut the sugar, but am at it again the next day! I am 23 with a two year old and can't eat this way for a million reasons. NO energy, feel like crap, setting a bad example...and on and on and on.
I am afraid of new year's parties and of the loads of candy my husband got me in my stocking. (he knows I love chocolate). TOday I am trying extra hard. All I have had is a handful of mixed nuts and my coffee (which has to have a bit of sugar). I am trying with renewed determination. Make it a new year's resolution (4 days early).
I have gained about 12 poinds in the last year becuase of this. I want it to stop!
Thanks for listening to my long rant, all of you. Any advice?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Secondly don't cut out sugar altogether or you will crave it even more. The sugar is addictive and it is bound to take a while to get out of your system so don't be too hard on yourself and give up if you have the odd slip up. Also if you don't eat completely (a few nuts doesn't count) you are more likely to end up binging. You need to eat carbs to keep energy up or you end up craving sugar big style.
Thirdly know you are not alone.

Remember that we at DS are here to help if you need it and that you can talk to us anytime.
Try and eat healthy, balanced meals and snacks not cutting out completely on any food group or foods that you enjoy. Maybe try not to keep suary foods in the house but try not to deny yourself too much, if you really want a chocolate bar, have one, its ok to indulge sometimes!!!
I wish you all the best and hope that you have a lovely day :) x
How often do you go on eating binges? This could be classified as binge eating disorder of compulsive overeating. But really, it doesn't matter what it is classified as. All that matters is that you are unhappy, you feel out of control and you want to stop. If you cannot stop on your own I highly recommend overeaters anonymous.
I have the same problem, especially with sugar! When i eat sugar, even if its just a little (especially baked goods!) i just CRAVE MORE. It sets up this response in me where i CANT STOP. So I try to avoid sugar all together, because even if I can handle it sometimes, I never know when its going to lead to a binge. Its a tall order at first but I just take it one day at a time.
It's like simultaniously punshing and satisfying myself. Why do i have to need sugar and chocolate? Why can't I be interested in things that aren't food? Why is it always calling out to me!!!
The holidays are probably the worst time to stay focused and the easiest to overeat and binge. I know I was doing pretty good and then the holiday parties started and the food gifts came along, everything from chocolate, to cookies, to more chocolate, it just never seems to stop.
I have battled with binging for years and it is a daily thing. I will say that what has helped me somewhat has been excersice and telling myself (regardless if I believe it or not) that I love who I see in the mirror, I love my body, and that I forgive myself because today is a new day. I think the more you do this the better you will feel about yourself. I have learned that this is a daily battle, some days are great and some days are not, which is why I joined DS because like you I too have my ups and downs and i helps when you have some type of support system or encouraging voice.
You are not alone Holly and you do not have to feel alone. We are here to encourage and support one another. Remember, today is a new day...allow yourself to love yourself :)
