Diet Pepsi contains Splenda. Splenda is made from sugar. It's a chemical and a nasty one at that. While there isn't alot of evidence on its safety because it's new it is studied and not completely excluded. Splenda causes your body, because of the sweetness, to think that it is going to get sugar. Your body releases chemicals in order to digest the sugar. When you don't get sugar as in the case of taking in Diet Pepsi your body is fooled but by for long. You will get hungry. Ravenous. Your body thought it was going to get sugar and it damn well will get itself some! This can cause prevention of weight loss or even weight gain. There have been thousands of reports of people stopping diet drinks and finding themselves in a place they haven't been - not ravenous.
Also. Splenda contains a chlorine atom which causes it to have zero calories in most people. However if you are the fifteen percent of people with a certain genetic makeup you will absorb the calories. Splenda is also bad for your liver because of the chemical crap thats going on.
Be prepared for a caffeine and sweetness crash if you stop. Diet Pepsi is addictive. And yes because of the Splenda it can prevent weight loss.
