due to my extreme anxiety which is daily and i am on all the meds you can be on, so today he wants me to try abilify. abilify is a weight gaining med., i told him no, i wont fill it. he said it is a low dose with little to no weight gain. i am beside myself, i am still struggling in my anorexia, which he knows and even a pound is off limits, yet i cant go on this way. the anxiety feeds my ed, as i have less appetite when its bad and when i dont eat my anxiety gets worse as my body isnt functioning well. it is such a mess. anyone on ailify or have suggestions for me?

I have anorexia and am on abilify as well. I have gained NOTHING while on it. I have actually lost weight (due to restriction). It does help with anxiety a lot though. I encourage you to try it if your dr recommends it.m

thank you for replying and your helpful words. i know i cant go on in this way, it is just so scary. i am trying , most days, to not actively restrict, at least maintain the weight i am. i hate anorexia and anxiety.

It really sucks. I hear you. I'm right there with you right now. One day at a time. I just try to imagine how amazing it will be when I am healthy again to be able to safely do active things like walk my dogs, go swimming, and chase my baby sister. It will be so worth it then. Remember that. Anxiety doesn't last forever.

Abilify is not a weight gain med. It is an AAP (atypical anti psychotic) which is in the same class as Seroquel, etc BUT it does NOT cause drastic weight gains like others in its class. Abilify and Geodon (both AAPs) are the LEAST likely to produce weight gain.

I am currently on Seroquel and Invega (AAPs) and a few others but have been through the mill in terms of med trials. I've been on Abilify before, and for several months. Absolutly no weight gain.

If the doctor is suggesting it and believes it to be beneficial, then try it. If it doesn't work out, no big deal, try another. Hopefully you'll be lucky and it will work for you, if not just try to keep focus and move along.

But honestly, doctors do go to school for years for a reason. They know how to evaluate each patients' needs and provide approrpiate care individually. Listen to your doctor and try Abilify.

I've been on a combination of abilify and wellbutrin for months now and if anything i have lost weight. I recommend at least trying it.

i have to have my dr. write to the insurance company to get approval for them to fill the med. i will try it if the insurance covers it, it is way out of my price range to fill, over 600$.

abilify actually has little to no gain weight side effect
I asked my doc for it because it almost has the least side effect possible
but then i stopped after trying because of other side effect like Drymouth and difficulty swallowing
u should definitely give it a try
