Please Help

I just talked to my fourteen year old cousin. She told me she's not eating and there's nothing anyone can do to stop her. I told her everything I'd been through. I told her of the consequences and she asked "Is that all?" She told me she'd deal with it later. She lives in a different state. Her mom pretty much knows and ignores it. Is there any authority? Any way anyone can help her? Any advice to help me help her? I know I would have been as stubborn at that age, but I just can't sit back and do nothing.. Please. Any help at all?

Wow, kind of snotty of her to say "that's all?" after you shared your story with her and tried to help. It'd be one to just continue to starve, but no need to give attitude to someone trying to help...I remember my mother got her friend from work to come talk to me about her anorexia when I was first diagnosed. The friend's story was heartbreaking, and although I knew it wouldn't change my mind, I at least listened to her and thanked her.

Rant over- is there any way you could call her school and inform them of her situation? They might have a counselor take over if you tell them what's going on. That's unfortunate that her mom is unsupportive, she does need help. But there have got to be options for her. I'd say if the school route doesn't work, and you have reason to believe she's in medical crisis, you could even call the police.

Yes as rude as it was.. You have to think what she's going through. She wants to be happy, even though it's not the right way.. I mean seriously shouldn't you be glad she OPENED up to you??

My sister is 14 and this is exactly how they act at that age. They think they know everything, rule the world, and are stubborn and very angry. I've tried talking to my sister about my ED when she started to hint at some signs. Completely blew me off. She said "well that's not me". End of conversation.

I do think that they listen. Even if they put up a wall I think they listen.

If the mother is denying medical care then it is a form of child abuse/neglect. So while this isn't the first route to go down it could come to that point. I agree to contact the school but first could you contact her mother and try to explain?
