Okay so you know what you need and have to do so please do it. Sometimes we have to push ourselves outside our comfort zone..... You even said it, you're 56! You should be living your life darling!!!!! - none of this ensure shit!
I didnt want to gain weight when i had anorexia, and i relapsed a few times over the years but in the end i thought stuff it, no one cares what i weigh! i'll never be FAT.... if i eat well i can be healthy and do things in life that mae me happy. So two years on and im still in my healthy weight range. Yea i still think about loosing the weight but i NEVER act on it.
You really need to sit down and write down the positves and negatives of what your actions will be.
If you dont take the right action you will end up In patient.... you dont want that. So push yourself to the limit.... you can DO IT!
Maybe see a dietician, someone you can confide in about food, i still see my dietician once a month.
