People don't believe I have dyslexia

I was formally diagnosed with dyslexia earlier this year. When I got diagnosed with dyslexia my flatmate just said 'really, your not dyslexic'. Recently I just got my dyslexia equipment including a laptop and printer, I got this for free. Now my friends don't believe I have dyslexia, they kinda treat it like I just got diagnosed to get free stuff. I'm at uni and I am a smart person, I haven't always felt like it, but not all of my friends have seen my struggle with my studies.

Has anyone else struggled with this? If so, how did you deal with it?

Hi! I'm a research student and I'm conducting a study in order to determine the relationship between dyslexia and tone-deafness (or amusia). I'm hoping that my findings will lead to new a new method of diagnosing dyslexia that will allow children to be diagnosed at a much younger age! Hi catchasem don't take any notice of the people who don't believe you, most people have a problem believing in dyslexia, especially when your an adult and appear to be able to read, write, spell etc quite well. Short of showing people the actual documentation stating you have dyslexia (which I would NOT do) you do not have to justify why you have been given the lap top etc to anyone.
I am very pleased your getting the support you need, but are you getting any other support from the college, such as a note taker, tutor etc?.
The computer program you have sounds like TextHelp read & write gold which is what i have and I love it. But someone should have shown you how to use the program because when used properly the program works very well. If its TextHelp read & write, contact them and ask if they have any courses or if they have a tutor who can teach you how to use the program. ww.texthelp.com/uk/support
Both my daughter & I are dyslexic, as I said I use the TextHelp read & write gold program and love it. I was given a grant to purchase my TextHelp program so it did not cost me anything, but as I had a lap top and a PC at home I was not eligible for a lap top, but I had not asked for a lap top anyway. I also had a tutor & note taker. I was 30 when I was diagnosed with dyslexia.
