Dry Eyes Support Group
Dry eyes is an eye disease caused by decreased tear production or increased tear film evaporation. Symptoms include burning and a sandy-gritty eye irritation that gets worse as the day goes on. The symptoms are often caused by a loss of water from the tears that results in tears that are too "salty" or hypertonic.
My eye doc has prescribed Alrex ( loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic suspension) see if it might make some difference to my dry eyes. But when I read the warnings I decided not to fill the Rx until I'd seen if anybody else has experience with this drug.
"Prolonged use of Alrex is associated with several warnings and precautions, including glaucoma with optic nerve damage, defects in visual acuity, cataract formation, secondary ocular infections, exacerbation or prolongation of viral ocular infections (including herpes simplex), delay in wound healing...
"If this product is used for 10 days or longer, intraocular pressure should be monitored. The initial prescription and renewal of the medication order beyond 14 days should be made by a physician only after examination of the patient with the aid of magnification. Fungal infections of the cornea may develop with prolonged use of corticosteroids."
These potential side effects sound much more severe than my dry eyes.

Hi im new but have only tryed over counter stuff thats all my eye dr. wants me to use. It works ok sometimes need to use alot.

I agree with you--sounds like the side effects are too much to risk. I wouldn't do it!
