Dizziness & Vertigo Support Group
Dizziness is the sensation of instability. Vertigo refers to dizziness with a sensation of motion. Vertigo is more likely than other types of dizziness to be associated with nausea, vomiting, or double vision, to occur even when lying down, and to feel better with the eyes closed. If you are a frequent sufferer of dizziness or vertigo, join the group and find support.
The thing that's strangest for me about this condition is how I "almost" forget that I have this problem. Then, I'll move a certain way (sometimes losing my balance) or I'll have some visual stimuli . . . and then, I get a rush of that dizzy lightheaded feeling as if by body is reminding me "Not so fast kid, you're not out of the water yet!"
Have an appointment this month to see another ENT both for a second opinion and the VNG testing. Not looking forward to the testing as I read some of your posts about the dizziness and even nausea. Can't wait for that! Guess I'll just have to "suck it up" and put on my "big girl panties" if I want any answers from the testing.
Take care everyone!
The good news is that I have an appointment to see the ENT later that afternoon for the results, so I don't have to wait or make a second trip. Yeah!
Can you share the kinds of information I can expect to get from the testing? Maybe I'll try to do an internet search as well.
Thanks for your info!
What I got was the reassurance my hearing was perfect. Then a concrete diagnosis. Vestibular neuritis. I was so glad to get a diagnosis. They told me before I left the room. Maybe because my husband is a doctor and they both knew him. But in any case a diagnosis was wonderful.
It definitely showed a 38% weaker left ear as far as the vestibule was concerned.
You know what? In any case I am royally angry at this. Nothing is helping. I'm concerned it'll never go away.
I haven't found a whole lot on the web about cervicogenic dizziness - there doesn't seem to be a consensus on treatment, but for me I've found that stretching exercises didn't help much (or maybe I need to do them longer to get an effect), but massaging the sternocleidomastoid muscle made a difference within a couple of days. VRT exercises don't seem to be doing anything either, but I should admit I am self-administering because the nearest therapist is 100 miles away.
Not all of your description matches a neck problem, but I thought I would throw it out because it might not be on the doctor's mind as a possibility. And if your problem is partly neck-related that could also explain non-results or conflicting results from tests or treatment.
Good luck!
Thanks for the helpful posts. Peg and Glomanaich I will definitely spend time Googling both ENS testing and cervicogenic dizziness before my appointment for testing next week.
The first ENT also mentioned silent migraine, so that must be something that is in the mix when doctors are trying to determine the cause.
I am very interested in researching more about cervicogenic dizziness. The first PT I saw spent a lot of time explaining about how many patients she saw had some abnormal position of jaw, cranium, neck . . . often after extensive dental work done prior to the onset of the vertigo/dizziness (which I did).
I can't remember enough of the specifics to explain what she was describing to me, but it had to do with pressure points on nerves and the positioning of the jaw, skull and spine when your mouth is being propped open for an extended period of time.
She also mentioned how many of her older patients tended to have that forward thrusting neck position (which unfortunately, I have to remind myself about).
Through the years, I have had many spine problems, including the neck. So I am hoping that there might be a structural connection for me that's causing this chronic dizziness.
Thanks again everyone and take care.
I am more or less inclined to believe that I am more concerned then they are.
More or less about this time every year, my issues act up and I get full ears, imbalance, just that complete off feeling. Takes a couple of weeks to really get back to normal.
Always leaves me guessing if this time it has gotten worse and stays worse. It has been 7 years since this started.
It's only been two years for me since this chronic dizziness started. I keep hoping one morning I will wake up and I will feel "normal" again without this constant dizzy head.
Prayers for us all!
Not fun. Waiting for some normalcy again.
Good luck!
Or if I went to ER they would give me Zofran, Valium and Meclizine.
That has always done the trick...just to get me home. The bad thing is I could sleep for days. Since December it has happened 3 more times in a week. It is horrible and there is not a worse feeling than that.
I now carry disvolable Zofran tablet, valium and meclinzine in my pocketbook. I am going to try PT this week for vertigo. It is my last chance at this point. I am desperate. From what I understand I do not have positional vertigo which is usually caused by the inner ear. I Had my ears checked by an ENT and also had the audio test.
I do have hearing loss (which I knew from 20 years ago along with the fullness feeling and tinitus. The ringing has become so much louder over the years. After doing research and reading everyone's blogs...It is so frustrating to know no one really has an easy answer. The thought of living like this is completely frustrating. YOu just never know when it is going to happen.
I just read something on a natural remedy called DiVertigo. I am going to stop and get it on the way home today. It is an oil that you put behind your ear and it is suppose to stop the feeling.
Like I said...I am desperate and will try anything.
I will post if I find it works.
Good luck to everyone.
