Dizziness & Vertigo Support Group
Dizziness is the sensation of instability. Vertigo refers to dizziness with a sensation of motion. Vertigo is more likely than other types of dizziness to be associated with nausea, vomiting, or double vision, to occur even when lying down, and to feel better with the eyes closed. If you are a frequent sufferer of dizziness or vertigo, join the group and find support.
Keep smiling, they'll wonder what you've been up to.
I have been suffering from vertigo for about 14 years. My vertigo is a symptom or something ( of course ) but don't really know what is causing it. When I first realized it was when I got off of a plane for a vacation. It almost ruined it! I stumbled into the streets, walls, tables, etc. I tried whatever I could think of to ease it. Everything from drinking lots of water, taking motion sickness pills and even getting drunk thinking it would have an opposite effect. Nothing worked. When I got back home I saw my family doctor. He of course gave my anti-anxiety meds, and you guessed it, it didn't work. I saw an ENT. He thought I was lying about it. ( I had no health insurance at the time! Why would I spend that kind of money so I could lie! ) Then I saw a neurologist. I ended up crying at the appointment ( because it was very debilitating ) and he called me a "baby". Then I saw a Chinese herbalist that specialized in many types of Eastern medicine. ( not sure what all her credentials were, but there was alot and she studied in China for over 7 years ) My boss at the time swore by her. She concluded there was something going on in my left ear, scar tissue perhaps. The fact that she wasn't a medical doctor, she couldn't give me a "diagnosis". I told my mother about it and she revealed to me that when I was little I had tubes put in my ears. After I was released from the hospital, we went camping and I of course went swimming in a lake and got a MASSIVE ear infection in my left ear. Come to find out, the surgeon forgot to mention that I shouldn't submerge my ears for 2 weeks!!! So we have been just thinking that was the cause. But not too long ago, I watched a program about people having mysterious illnesses. This particular one was about "disembarkment syndrome" that is caused by traveling especially by PLANE. I wouldn't even know how to begin looking for a doctor to test me for this. I've never looked into it as from what I understand, there is no real treatment for this. But of course, what if there IS something that can be done?! Any thoughts? Have you ever heard of "disembarkment syndrome"? Also, when I have a vertigo attack, I get pulled to the left. Is this what it's like for anyone else? Or is it just dizziness?
I had guessed that it had to do with how my ear had healed from the ear infection. Does anyone know of corrections done to poorly heeled ears/eardrums?
I'm not a doctor, but just sharing what I know as a patient. There are a few ailments that cause dizziness, so it may be something other than Meniere's. I have vestibular migraine - dizziness, vertigo, loss of balance, etc - which can for some people be triggered by barometric pressure changes. Every time the barometer readings go over 1020, I appear to be at risk.
There is a handy website - URL: yr.no - that provides barometric reading forecasts for anywhere in the world. Very handy for people who are sensitive to those changes.
Have you seen a neurologist?
