Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
What did you do with the rings?

OK - here's a random thought...
Those of you who are further along in this process - what did you do with your wedding rings?
I've not worn mine since she told me she was leaving me. My thought was it was given to me "as a symbol of her love and fidelity" - according to our vows. Apparently that symbolism is gone, so I felt it not appropriate to wear it any more. I know she noticed my not wearing it, and she continued to wear hers for a while (although now she wears a different ring on her left ring finger). She had asked my way back when if I wanted it back, and then I said no. (I still love her and was always faithful, so the symbol is still there..) But now I'm thinking I may want it - and the ring I gave her for out 10yr anniversary. Although I don't know why - or what I'd do with them (other than sell them). I'm thinking it's probably kind of tacky to give them to a future fiancee, huh?? lol
I think I will give mine back to her. She can hock it if she wants - it has little meaning to me anymore.
Maybe she can just keep them all - AND.... I can factor that into the assets that get divided...
OK, enough babbling - just curious what some of you guys (and girls) have done.

I had gone to the grocery store. When I wheeled my cartback to my car I just stool there a minute. A few spacesaway a Tesla Cyber truck was parked. I had seen it on theroad a few times for a few seconds. But not close up.It looked like it belonged to 2126 and not 2026. I wasgoing to take a picture of the car but the owners cameback and drove away. It was an ordinary middle age...

Never really thought about them that much.
Mine was gone a long time ago.
When I worked as a heavey equipment operator ( Bull dozers/ earth
moving machines) I worked doing that for 12 1/2 years when I came
home from Vietnam.......anyway it was to dangerous to wear rings.
So mine would go on only when we went out. Don't know where it is now.
NOW, her rings....well maybe three or four years before she left
( maybe longer ???). . She had her ring remade. The diamond was set in a different
band with some other diamonds. At the time, I thought nothing of
It. Now, looking back...that was a sign. Who would change something
Like that with so much meaning......love attached to it.....unless you lost
Your feeling of love..........Just thinking.....I remember when we bought
It.....( tears..tears).... that was ..like 48 ..49 year ago.......life was fun then.....
I better stop now...I can see it's getting to me. And I can see that its going
to lead me to more tears and a dark place...
Have a good night.....Timemam
One creative and amusing thing to do with unwanted wedding rings can be found by googling "Wedding Ring Coffin" It made me chuckle, for sure.
I've read about a few different ideas: There is a place that sells ring coffins and you can have the dates your marriage began and ended inscribed on it but I wasn't going to bother 'paying my respects' to my dead marriage because I wasn't going to honor it or him that way.
I've read that some people will take it on a cruise when they get remarried and pitch it into the ocean.
Most re-sell it but you often get pennies on the dollar.
Some people have them melted down and re-fashioned into a new piece of jewelry but I suspect that mostly women do that.
I read about a guy who sold his and took his new girlfriend out to dinner with the proceeds. That sounds like a decent idea. Or a woman who used her monies to buy breast implants after her ex cheated on her. I thought that was a good one too-although you'd have to have a pretty expensive ring to pull that off!
I like the idea of selling it and treating yourself to something nice or having it re-fashioned.

I didn'need a ring to remind me to be faithful. Apparently the ex had no intentions of honoring our marriage vows. He did buy me a pretty wedding band a few years into our marriage. I couldn't wear it and put it away.
I ended up selling it along with some earrings and a few things the ex didn't take with him. I put the money in savings to help pay off the farm mortgage.
with the old wedding rings...
It got me thinking that the meaning involved with everyone's
wedding ring.....the ring that was put on your finger ..in front
of God.....in (most of us ) in a church.. I'm starting to think that you
Can never take away that blessing.... I think that however you change that
ring.... wherever it goes. . To whom ever. That it will carry with it
the (Cry..cry ) the love that it once represented in your marriage.
That can never be removed from it.
I know that im going to get a lot of responses here that are going to
disagree , buf thats ok !!! Like o said: im just thonking about this.
If i would have her diamond ( 1 krt) gold ring......i would
throw it in the ocean. To lay there endlessly....forever .
One Christmas, long ago.........I had a custom gold diamond stick
Pin made for her. Gold pin with gold leaves on the top and in the
Middle was this beautiful diamond. It was a one of a kind.....
I gusse that to would go into the ocean, if I had my way.
I know that she(x) had her wedding engagement ring redone
into a cocktail ring.....a couple years before she left. But I wonder
what she did with the stick pin.......I'm going to have to ask her.
OK my lady friends here........be easy me please....I'm just one
of those stupid centamental men type.. Ha-Ha......
I cried a little bit writing what I did. How can I not have a tear
Remembering the day I put "that ring" on her finger... many....
many years ago...only know to have it all end so ugly... what
a shame.......OK..... that's it... had my tear jerker for the day ....lol.
