Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
On another note about the original start of this thread (i think) it has been a absolute god send for me, wish id found this site a lot sooner because I knew no one that had been married as long as i have been that was divorcing and while it is very very sad that there are others like me in my position it is soooo much easier knowing im not alone and there are others that are in it or past it to help me along the way.
But while we're on the topic, I just need to say something....I never could stand bikini panties because they got all bound up under tight jeans and riding chaps so I switched to the high-cut ones. They stay where they belong...which is NOT up the crack of my butt. I could never quite figure out why ANYONE would buy those stupid THONG underwear! I pay a lot of money to make sure my undies don't do that "Indian thing" which is creeping up on me.
LOL!
I used to have a really super duper motorized treadmill which I used to get in shape for downhill skiing. It WAS boring as Hell, but I bribed myself into sticking with it. The only time I could listen to books on tape, was when I was on that blessed treadmill. And I found Mel Gibson's voice so enchanting, I listened to My Secret Garden over and over and over again. (I think that was the book he read on tape...been years ago.)
Ok, another handful of Jelly Bellies and I'm heading to the barn to do some AEROBIC HORSE GROOMING before it starts raining again!
But then, on the other hand, about 20 years ago while driving home from a late night horse auction, I passed a guy out walking two roads over from my farm, and I swore my eyes were going weird on me. He was wearing a housedress! I shook my head and kept driving thinking I must have imagined it.
Two weeks later, I saw him again! THIS TIME, I went down the road a little bit and turned around and drove back for a double check. Sure nuff! He was wearing the same frumpy looking housedress, sneakers and crew socks. I almost ran off the road.
From that day forward, whenever we would talk about that location or that house or THAT WEIRD GUY, it was always referred to as THE MAN IN THE DRESS! I don't know what ever became of him, but some new people bought the place years later and they are my friends.
Weirdness even out here in the wilds of Maryland!
Now back to other comments. I needed all the laughs. It's been a difficult week. My parents were married 65 years when my mom passed a away summer before last. My Dad took care of my mom as long as he could and then hired nurses to come in and take care of her in the house. I have no excuse for not having a good marriage. It was modeled for me daily.
If I ever thought of marrying again I would run the other way if I met a man with my ex's backround. He was not marriage material. But I am saying this in hindsight. People hide what they are until they feel comfortable enough to let you really see what they are.
Somehow, though, my X had this notion that if he (got) and stayed married, he was destined to "live a life of quiet desperation" -- and I know that's a quote from someone famous, just can't recall who right now.
It was my X's "notion" that caused all the trouble. He actually SAID THAT TO ME many times during our 30 year relationship. I say now (as I said to him then) "If you keep telling yourself that this is the way you are going to feel, YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL THAT WAY!" It has taken four years since our divorce for him to SEE, FEEL AND UNDERSTAND that he is living that "life of quiet desperation" even WITHOUT BEING MARRIED.
I write this for EVERYONE here to think about. Our lives become what we WANT THEM TO BECOME and that's why DAILY SELF-AFFIRMATION is so important!
