Getting the lawyer to write a letter would be much easier on you. You already know he's going to be verbally "snarky". You really shouldn't care if he thinks you are the money hungry ex. He's going to think and say that no matter what you do.

This is a bill that he owes you. Just like the bills you pay he owes you. Whether you do it or your lawyer writes a letter you will hear from your ex. I think you will get this sooner if you just let your lawyer send him a letter.

Let me add to what I wrote last night. If you call he might see that as begging. If your lawyer writes he will take that letter more seriously.

I'm with Trisha on this one. No need to expose yourself to his snarkiness when this is something he is legally bound to do. Even if it cost you $400 to have a letter written by your attorney, it would be well worth it. I certainly didn't cut the X any slack on ANY of the settlement items when we divorced in 2007. He was a few days late ONE TIME with the alimony and all it took was a single paragraph letter from my attorney and he was on time for the rest of the alimony period.

Rather than deal with any nasty reply, mail him a letter with a copy to your lawyer to document it. If you pay the relatively small amount to have it registered and signed for, you have everything you need in place to follow up with the courts, making him pay attention, and hopefully, pay up pronto.

It's professional, polite, and businesslike. If he's stupid enough to write back, paper threats and bullying carry more weight in court. If he sends a nasty email anyways, he's going to look like a petulant child in the face a grown up.

Well, i went ahead and emailed him. Very casual, polite and to the point. This is what I said:
Hope you are well. We want to book flights for daughter trip home this summer but haven't received your year end check. Let me know when that will be coming.
His Response:
Sorry I delayed getting back to you on this. I wanted to physically look into what I thought. We did not hit our numbers for plan in 2015, because of that I did not receive and bonus. Sorry to let you down on it. It seems the more we grow, the ore out plans gown and the tougher it is to hit them.

Hmmm... I told my D this and she said well I don't think he'd lie. I don't know I'm not sure it he's telling the truth or if he just doesn't want to pay it. Seems strange he wouldn't get something... You can have your atty request his pay records and any bonuses he received from payroll. I don't know what he does but if it's a big company he may not even know you requested the info. Has he ever not received a bonus?

I would have your lawyer follow up with his company. It's part of the decree. If he's telling the truth, so be it. If he's not (would anyone be surprised?), he needs to pay up.

Yes after much debate and conversations with my dad and sister, I have contacted my lawyer. She is sending a letter to his lawyer stating that proof was needed that a bonus was not issued. It had to be on company letterhead and signed by his supervisor. hmmm. no response yet.

I would want the HR department and signed by the head of the HR department. Anyone else, I do not trust. Just this weird feeling that came over me.

My ex made friends in payroll. I never knew about all his cheating because he left work to cheat during work hours. His friends in payroll covered his hours. Paycheck and hours matched. You can subpoena payroll and then you will definitely know.

If you have an order in place that requires him to pay you part of his bonus and if you do not want to use your attorney, email him. Remind him of the portion of the order that requires him to pay you. Then tall him that you would like to try to settle this issue without involving the attorneys. Give him one week to pay you and if he doesn't, go to your attorney. Your attempt to settle this out of court will be seen favorably by the judge.
