Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
So...its important to choose your moments wisely...when she is ready she will ask...if she accuses you of something that is untrue...simply and calmly state that and move on...if she asks...tell her the truth calmly and address that one issue...Big Hugs...Kathy

An update…things are better now. She has been contacting me more often. Yesterday, she came by for dinner and we talked about all the things she'll need for her new apt, which she moves into over the weekend. She genuinely seemed interested in making things good again. I hope it's for real. This past month without her has been pure hell on me, not knowing if I'd lost her forever or what. Feeling relieved but not 100% ready to completely let my guard down.

I be myself but I be my best self. My motto is 'love, compassion and respect for all' and I stick to that as closely as possible. One daughter reconciled completely in 3 months and we are closer than ever. The other took 3 1/2 years to be in better contact, and another year to return properly.
Be the best you possible, and try to act normally while she's around. Yes, she'll be watching you but maybe you can include her in your work as well. Make it a fun but seriously working kind of day, if possible?
This is a great opportunity to show her who you really are, and bond some more as well.
All the best

My daughters have said a few things not so complimentary about their dad, and I tend to just let them talk. Like you, I agree that he can be very judgmental and disrespectful, but I don't get into it with them. I just try to be as sympathetic as I can be without saying anything about him myself. A couple of times, when it's been more a factual discussion, I did agree that he never used to eat ice cream so his sudden discovery that crushed nuts are pretty good on ice cream was not a surprise, and I've also agreed that he never really made a fuss of his nephews and nieces. Facts only. No personal denigration.
Yes no badmouthing at all costs. Your daughter is stuck in the middle and most likely feels like you're both after her to be on your side. I have to admit it would be nice if I didn't have to deal with my ex, but that's pie in the sky. We do have to deal with our exes in our kids' lives, so we may as well do it properly IMO.
You can do it. Bring some fun and love into the picture, too, tho.
