Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I can tell you, it takes minute by minute some days. It's a conscious effort on your part daily to do something just for you. As times goes on, you will start to see that the pain is lessening and that you are starting to live again and actually enjoy life.
For me, the betrayal of being left was greater than the financial destruction from the gambling, and I had to face that head-on. Once you realize that it is him who is flawed, things will come together.
Keep checking back here and continue seeing your therapist. You are on the right track. Please give yourself time to process all this. You have a full life ahead of you! You have to make it for yourself.
Sending hugs!
No, I don't like where my life is at. I don't like what we have become. I hate everything about this divorce......but, I know that deep down, I am going to be ok. It's just going to take more time. Healing takes time. Change takes time. Acceptance takes time.
I'm forlorn also....and I cry alot. But I know that I will survive this. If anything....thats ALL I know right now. I don't know how, when or why....but I know I will.
I also had an argument with my daughter this evening because I am so hurt that my kids even want him to visit after what he has done to me but they love him and she told me that she and my other children love him and want to see him. She also said I should move out if I continue to talk about how he hurt me and ruined my life and that he has every right to visit HER HOUSE. She tells me my expectations of people are way too unrealistic because I had hoped she would tell him that it is too painful for me to see him so soon (it has only been 3 months since he said he wanted out). On the other hand, my son from the Navy is coming to see all of us this weekend and my husband wants to see him too (my husband lives 3 hours away now). Next year he is probably moving to our area and I dread that.
I do not feel I am making any progress and moving on at all. Every day I feel like a zombie that just wishes the days would pass. Please remind me that I will be stronger and wish to live someday. You all sound so strong and positive.
I don't think that our children can totally understand and grasp what has happened to us, I don't think anybody can, who has not had it happen to them could even imagine what it feels like.
Do you have to be there when he visits, can't you just leave until he is gone? I see, you want to see your son, so you would want to stay there. I really do not have any good advise and I don't know how I would handle it. Just try to make it less about your husband and more about the the visit with the kids.
You probably are making progress, it's little tiny baby steps but are making progress.
Hugs to you!

We have no choice but to find our inner strength and hold onto it like a lifeline. Look for support and encouragement from other sources and continue to be the mother your kids have known when you're with them. I know it's hard, but it will save you lots of heartache if you can manage it.
