I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
36 years of marriage over

have been married to a wonderful man for 36 years, but had to leave due to alcohol. He would do anything for me and I know he loves me but when he drinks he is very verbally abusive. He would drink and say things and by morning he would pretend that everything was okay, but it wasn't. I went to bed each night mad and got up the same way. I began to wish him dead so I could have peace. How did I think that kind of relationship was working? I didn't say anything about his drinking because I liked my glass of wine and didn't want to judge him for doing the same thing I did, but there was a difference, I wasn't mean to anyone. I hate not being at my home, I live with my sister and feel like such a failure. I worked hard all my life and tried hard to have a good retirement, but feel like it is all lost. I took out my 401k, paid off the house, got an upgrade with my car and left. He lives in the house. It's been four months and I don't feel better about where I'm at.

I had gone to the grocery store. When I wheeled my cartback to my car I just stool there a minute. A few spacesaway a Tesla Cyber truck was parked. I had seen it on theroad a few times for a few seconds. But not close up.It looked like it belonged to 2126 and not 2026. I wasgoing to take a picture of the car but the owners cameback and drove away. It was an ordinary middle age...

Keep going to AA and start making a life for yourself and see what happens. It's hard but you can do it.
The pastor came out looking for me and we got through a short conversation with me unable to control myself. I just can't talk about it right now, its easier here online.
Please try not to feel like a failure. You are so strong for making that change and essentially standing up for yourself by setting boundaries on how you will be treated.. It takes a lot of courage to do that. I experience that same insane behavior where he is verbally abusive and then act as if nothing happened the next day. It is baffling to me that someone can function like that. It is like a battle occurred and we are the ones that have the wounds and scars the next day. My heart goes out to you. Try to spend time doing things for yourself. Staying busy will take your mind off of it too. My heart goes out to you.
You, my dear, have a new life ahead of you. You will miss the familiarity of your marriage, but trust me, in time, there will be benefits to being without him that you never even expected. It will take time for sure - but please know we are here to support you. Hugs.
