Emergency Surgery

October 20th I went into emergency surgery for a perforated bowel and now I have a colostomy and I also ended up with 23 staples from just above my belly button to my bikini line. I am now 3 weeks post op and am still so tired. My doctor said I could go back to work after 2 weeks and I am telling you after two weeks going back to work is almost impossible. I am exhausted and I am having trouble doing anything but sleep. well thats alittle about me. My doctor said the perforation is from diverticulitis so now I have a special diet and a colostomy that I am getting reversed in January.

When I was hospitalized for uncomplicated diverticulitis (no operation), I didn't go back to work for 3 weeks and it was just part-time the first week. I think 2 weeks after a major operation is ridiculous! Go with what you feel, not some doctor's estimate.

My mother had a colostomy reversed and never had another bowel problem after.

the diet is a low residue diet. No nuts, raw vegitables, or deep fried food. Those are the No's that I can think of. I hope I don't have any problems after the reversal but the doctor said I have to follow the low residue diet for the rest of my life.
