Hello all,
I am new to this forum (but not to DS) and need some advice on Anal fistula. Yeah, I know, not a pretty subject... Nothing like breaking my way into your group here with a great topic! :)
***SIGH**** So, here goes... I gotta ask someone!
Years ago I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and had a portion of my intestines removed because of the damage.
Also, over about as many years I occasionally have had a boil near my anus. It would come and go. Maybe once a year, maybe twice some years, maybe a few years with nothing...
Now doc wants to do the surgery to open it up and fix it right so it won't come back anymore...
I HATE it (of course!) when it pops up (pun? :), but it happens so seldom that surgery, more-so, recovery from said surgery, just seems so out there!
I had hemorrhoid surgery quite a few years ago too, and that was HORRIBLE!! Not so much the process, although that was no fun either as it was done in doc office (but that's another story!)...
But what I keep thinking is when you break your leg, heck, they put a cast on it and you don't use it till its healed... But with this, having this wound trying to heal after surgery, while I'm still using it (pooping!), just does NOT seem right... or fun!!
So, long story short.... Have you or anyone you known had this surgery? if so, what was recovery like? How long did it take? I am a student and sit in uncomfortable college desks chairs all day long...

I don't have one. But welcome to the group. I assume you've read up on this? The little bit I just read said that the surgery is elective and the reason most people have it is because of the discomfort caused by the fistula. If you think you would prefer the occasional discomfort of the fistula over the surgery and recovery then it seems the decision is up to you. Good luck.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
