Hello. This is my first day on this site and support group. Quick history: over 2 years ago, I was on medication that made me THIN! I was a size 2 plus I worked out 5 days a week so I looked great...but the meds did not help me so I felt bad mentally. Then the Dr changed my meds plus some shit happened in my life. I started consuming an extra 300+ calories from drinking alcohol and I stopped going to the gym. As a result, I gained 25 pains and I feel terrible! I am bloated, my gastritis is flaring up all the time, I hate the way my clothes fit and I just feel tired. I make attempts to get to the gym but I have no consistency. I have pinned a thousand workouts and healthy recipes on Pinterest but never follow through. How do I get motivated and start taking care of myself?

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I would start out with small changes and try to stick to them. Like smaller portion sizes, less sugar drinks, more water, less junk food, and eat protein, fruits and veg.
Move more, like walk more, ride bike or any other activity you like to do.
Just take 1 day at a time and be patient and even though we try hard, sometimes it takes a while for the body to react.
Those adult beverages take too many calories that we need to nourish ourselves, don't they? I like to take a wine glass, put ice in it, pour 4 oz of my favorite wine and then top it off with cold water. Works for me. Feel like I've had a whole 8 oz glass of wine. If I'm really cutting the calories, I'll have 2 oz wine or none. I also enjoy a water over ice and squeeze of lemon with some stevia. It's just nice that it feels like a special beverage in some way.
You could use a calorie counter to keep on track. So many things are so many more calories than they would seem to be! Also, the weekly weigh-in habit helps in the accountability department.
Here's to your new healthy habits!!! (and remembering that it's really about enjoying the process of making these changes and watching the effects that have.) Biggest reward is feeling better.
There are plenty of groups on DS to help you. Glad you're here where you can get encouragement.
I do eat well as far as meals goes. Just the drinking that causes issues. She talked about organic food. What's your thoughts? Is organic carrots better than non organic?
