Hi,
I decided to take my measurements so that I could measure any reduction, I looked up how do this online and measured my waist as 35.5 and hips as 46. I looked this up in terms of dress sizes and that would make me a size 20 (UK) but I am actually a size 16. Themeasurements for a size 16 are a 32 inch waist obviouslythis confused me but what is more of a concern is that a 35 inch waist is seen as dangerous whereas a 32 inch waist is ok whats going on? (and yes the tapemeasure was straight!)
Thanks for any help,
M

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

As for the waist measurement thing, my understanding is that last summer, the results of a study that looked at the relationship between mortality and waist size were released. The study found a correlation between mortality and larger waist sizes, regardless of BMI. The study (done by the American Cancer Society) said that 30 inches was an optimal waist size for women. But the American Heart Society says 35 inches is optimal for women. So there is some conflicting information on this.
Then there is also the waist-to-height ratio, where you divide your waist size by your height, and look at the percentage on a chart that divides them into categories supposedly indicating whether you are at a healthy weight or not.
Some of the information out there says that the bigger the waistline measurement, the higher risk of diabetes.
I am trying to focus on how I feel and trying to stick to my diet and exercise regime. I'd like to have a 26 waistline again but it's one step at a time. If I never get down to that, at least I'll look and feel better in the process of working toward a healthier me. That's what it's all about for me, feeling healthier, looking healthy too!
It helps to have friends to encourage us. I love coming to DS. I love participating in the Yoohoolouie challenge - this is open to anyone who would like to join us too. I like being accountable - helps a lot.
