Gradual changes are easier to sustain for a lifetime, than bigger drastic changes. Build on small successes.
Try to replace sweets with fresh veggies. (Don't add salt or sugar on them.)
Drink water, lots of water. Perhaps drink 2 glasses of water between cups of coffee?
Eat smaller portions of everything.
Getting on an exercise program can be hard, perhaps it is the hardest to implement. Perhaps walking more each day, get up and 10 minutes out of each hour just walk.
It is possible! Don't try to change everything all at once.
I also started walking every day in my house. Sounds strange but because of back and leg issues I'm not that steady on my feet and walking outdoors even on sidewalks is not good. So the first week I put the timer on for 5 minutes and walked up and down the hall. Now I'm up to 30 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon.
I'm a big believer in just taking one small step and then the rest will follow.
All i can tell you is to enjoy the good days when they come and try to get moving. I have noticed that when I force myself to move I feel a bit better. It doesn't matter what it is, just move. I have been thinking about Zumba (at home of course) I think it may be something different to try, look into it. Also take it slow, do not do anything crazy like throw all your food out or going on a 10 mile up hill jog. baby steps that way you wont even notice the "extreme" changes actually taking place. I promise if you could stick to it those good days would happen more and more.
Good Luck
Not about me, but about what I think people think ABOUT me.
The first few times I tried to lose weight I hinted around about it. Said I'd lose some weight, and even posted a weight loss goal. Now I "went public" and freely broadcast my weight. I figure most people could look at me and guess pretty accurately how much I weighed and/or needed to lose.
Now I just don't care what they think. If they ask me I'll tell them what I weigh, how much I've lost, and what my target is.
And if they walk away from that thinking I'm a flat slob then that it their issue to work with!
Eventually, I felt better with the therapy, stopped smoking and in place of the smoking, I walked and gradually improved my way of eating.
The walking and other exercise improved my mood tremendously. I wished I had been able to start moving earlier.
Long story short, I eventually lost over 50 pounds and in the process learned to eat well and stop bingeing.
It is very worth the effort and time. Like everyone says, take it step by step and when you have a slip up, get up and back on track as fast as you can.
Don't starve yourself, just start to slowly eliminate or greatly reduce the sugar (except for fresh fruit), fried, fast, conveniance and proccessed foods along with the white stuff like pasta, breads and rice and replace it with whole grain. Limit the high fats like cheese and butter. Use olive oil. Love your veggies!
Don't make the changes all at once. Do something new once a week and before you know it, you'll be in a new life style that will make you feel better and before you know it you will be craving and loving the fresh whole foods.
