So I am going to try again but not sure if it will be what I originally wanted to say.
First off, I am obese. I have to actually say that so that I will face it and stop lving in denial.
I know it is hard to hear someone else say they have to loose a much smaller amount of weight. I try to remind myself that they have just as hard of a time getting started and keeping on track. Plus I have learned from my own health issues that we can not always tell what is wrong with someone else just by looking at them. There could be some very important reason why someone has to loose a small amount of weight. I do my best to remind myself that so that I will not depress myself with the actual number of the pounds that I need to loose.
I am grateful that I have found this website because of all the support I can see is available.

Caru, although I do not know what it feels like to have to lose 100+ lbs, I do know how overwhelming it felt to know that I was facing the challenge of losing 40 lbs. One thing I did, and still do, that helps me is to section off my goals. You said you need to lose over 100lbs... so try focusing on the first 10-15 lbs. Figure out what diet/fitness plans work best for you and realize that there is no set method that works for eveyone. Next, CELEBRATE each "sub-goal". When you reach the first 10-15 lbs loss, acknowledge the hard work and dedication that was involved in racahing it. I know that it will be difficult to ignore the remainder of your major goal, but don't let that overshadow your accomplishment. I usually get a lot more motivated when I start to see results.
Starting any weight loss journey is always tough. Motivation and sometimes just figuring out what to do can be a challenge. There is so much information out there on exercises and food comsumption that its hard to know where to start. You just have to MAKE the decision that you will do SOMETHING that will start you on this journey. I do not know what your exercise routine is, but if you walk for 30 minutes, try adding 5 minutes every week, or try walking a different path, something with a hill or two, try adding handweights, etc.
Food for me is a real challenge because I am a snacker. I have no problem eating really healthy foods, but I just tend to eat more than I should. I workout pretty intensely, however, I feel like my true battle with with food - and therefore I do not see the results that I would like, as quickly as I would like. I think I am at an advantage, though, because I realize that about myself and not ignore it.
I wish you all the best in doing this. I think joining this group is a really good move because you will find so much support. You CAN do this. There are so many stories out htere of people who have lost up to 500+ lbs. What makes them so special... NOTHING! They decided to take the first step and kept going. You can do that too.
So far, this thread of posts has been very supportive and I hope that it remains that way. We have all joined this community in search of a connection with people who are facing similar challenges. We all are on a weight loss journey and should seek and offer help.
I hope you found this to be helpful... Good luck to all.
There are good sides to both. on one hand, when you have a small amount to lose, it`s easier to get motivated when you lose only 1-2lbs since it`s a higher % of your total goal weight lost.
On the other hand, I found that when i had a lot of weight to lose, once i fully commited myself to it, the weight came off much faster then it is now. (up to 4-5lbs a week).
That`s my experience. :) hope it helps.
