As for what to do when the family wants to feed us at those family gatherings. If it is sort of a buffet type function try to be last in line so that most will be away from the serving area and not even notice what you took or did not take. Spread what you do take around on the plate so it 'looks' like you took plenty. Another trick is try to be the last or the next to the last one done eating at the table....practice putting that fork down between bites and chew everything a long time. What do they recommend? - chew 25 times? I can't remember.

As for eating out, I avoid eating anything deep fried and I avoid eating red meat of any kind in a restaurant. I eat a lot of salads, asking for dressing on the side or, better, having oil and vinegar that I can put on myself. If I have an entree with a salad first, I eat the salad and then only eat half of my entree or less and take the rest home where it makes one or two more meals. For breakfast out, I have two eggs (or egg whites) scrambled, tomatoes instead of potatoes, and whole wheat toast, no butter. This is also an okay meal at a coffee shop where there doesn't seem to be anything else on the menu that I can eat. If fast food is my only choice, I know that I can have the six inch Veggie Deluxe sandwich at Subway or a small tostada at Taco Bell without completely blowing it.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
