Hello....I need some input if you can help me. I have an old fashion, not digital scale, with sliding block. For the past months, been weighing in daily and losing(water weight)..and whenever I reached 390s..and then the following day, it goes back up on my start weight of 420/430...no matter what foods I eating, healthy or unhealthy most of the time. I am light active and moving around daily. I walk daily, 30- 60 mins..plus climbing stairs. and my home scale is on a flat surface and even put a 10 Lbs weight to see if it works and its accurate, I do not have patience on weighting in weekly or monthly..
Does anyone has some clue on what it can be? I am planning on getting a digital scale for the holidays...Do you think of my age and need to upgrade on a new scale? I need to loose weight Any feedbacks I do appreciate.. Thank you in advanced..

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Wow, your scale would drive me nuts. My wt would fluctuate 5 lbs, so I weigh once a month. I couldn't take all the ups and downs. With the test you did, it sounds like your scale is accurate. I had worked in a hospital, and we had this type of scale, and once when I had a gym membership, they had that scale, but who knows. But, that is a lot of variation. Maybe, if you have health insurance, you could talk to a nurse over the phone and she could give you her opinion.
I like your idea of getting a new scale, make sure it is one that can accommodate your weight.
As for losing weight, there are lots of opinions here. The best one I got when I joined here is that what works for me might be a disaster for you, and what is a disaster for me may be PERFECT for you! So listen to what we all say, and pick what you believe will work for you.
There are some general things that have helped a lot of us.
First, diets do not work, lifestyle changes do! It is all about 3 lifestyles. The one that got us overweight in the first place, one that will let us lose weight, and one that will let us maintain our weight. Too many times I would lose some weight, but go back to that lifestyle that got me over weight in the first place.
Second, it is all about calories in versus calories out. If we exercise more than we consume, then we will loose weight.
Finally, we all hit plateaus and fall off our plan. That is OK, we just need to get back up on the horse (as the saying goes) and get started again.
As for lifestyle changes, the big ones that worked for me are to exercise more, use smaller plates to control how much I eat, and avoid foods that are bad for me like fast food.
In any event, welcome!
And I think we deserve all the tools we can allow ourself to have when we have set out to achieve a fabulous thing like a lifestyle change. I totally agree with ThePepperMan. In weightwatchers, they always stress that it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change that we have to embrace. We have to have an insight as to where we want to be and start taking on that role, that persona.
Mark Hyman has a fabulous book out that helped me embrace some healthy changes to my diet. It's basically eating a lot of vegetables and a small portion (1/4 cup) brown rice with 3-4 oz of animal protein and then supplementing with vegetable broth (homemade or the most organic type you can find). I began to feel more energy right away and it led me to keep making adjustments to what I'm currently doing. Huge salads before each dinner, 2/3 of my plate is vegetables and a small amount of chicken or fish, mostly fish for me though.
So glad you've joined us here. I hope you get to where you can rely on a decent scale here shortly. Meanwhile, don't let that discourage you. I had a friend who never got on a scale at all. He went by how the clothes fit and did a fabulous job with that. We used to incorporate a lot of grapefruit into our diet and encourage each other constantly. It worked wonders.
Hopefully, you will get that encouragement here. You've got a fabulous walking plan down. That's fantastic! Hope to be witness to your positive changes.
I think getting yourself a new scale is a good idea. It can be your holiday gift to yourself to kick off a healthier new year!
Again,, Thank you all..
Liliann :)
