Hey everyone,
I need some recipe suggestions. I cannot stand another week of diet food. I have been mixing it up as much as possible, and I am totally eating, I'm not just munching celery and carrots and starving myself, I swear.
But normally I eat really spicy food when I'm not dieting. I put ceyenne pepper on everything. I love chorizo and eggs, but chorizo is like fat and peppers in a bag. All the foods I have found that are big enough for a meal and healthy, (steamed veggies, sweet potatoes, corn, greens, baked chicken) are usually pretty bland.
Does anyone have any recipes or suggestions on how to cook an actual DINNER using veggies and some lean meat but with SPICE in it, preferably something I can dump chilis into. Unusual or foreign veggies and recipes are totally welcome.
HELP ME!! I'm hungry!!

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

Start off by sauteeing onions and garlic in olive oil (add the chopped garlic during the last 3 minutes of sauteeing or it will get bitter). Place in large pot and add a quart of chicken broth, a 15 oz can of whole tomatoes and all your favorite veggies like chopped spinach or kale, carrots, string beans, cabbage or whatever else you love. Add a can of your favorite beans (rinsed). Bring to a boil then reduce heat and cover leaving a little space for steam to escape. Simmer for an hour then enjoy. Don't forget to spice it up as much as you like. You can even add pieces of skinless boneless chicken for extra protein. So delicious, hearty and filling! You can freeze in seperate containers if desired or keep the pot in the fridge and eat some each day!
I've complicated things though. Now that I don't eat dairy or mushrooms anymore, I had to chop up some spinach and mix it with some olive oil and spices and cover my crust with that and some sauteed veggies. Was pretty good but I'm still refining my recipe. I'm going to mix some chicken broth and more spinach next time. :)
Dr. Perricone has some tasty recipes too. My boyfriend loves spicy foods and he enjoys some of those recipes. We were making ground turkey patties and Perricone chile (before I stopped eating legumes).
If you like seafood, we make a pretty tasty shrimp boil - New Orleans style. You can either get the "Zatarain's" seasoning or make your own. :)
Just a few ideas. Hope they help.
Ground turkey is one of those foods that will adapt to whatever you cook it with - I make turkey meatballs and simmer them in tomato sauce - you could make the sauce as spicy as you want. Throwing in a can of tomatoes with jalapeno peppers can work there. I have recipes for a couple of kinds of turkey burgers that are really good, one uses cilantro and the other one has cranberries in it - you could add chilis to either one. I'll see if I can dig those out and send them to you. Turkey or vegetarian chili is also really good, and you can make that as hot as you want it, too.
I think you could also make a chili-based relish and put it on grilled fish, along with some grilled vegetables on skewers or cooked in one of those baskets you put on the grill, or baked or broiled fish. You could use hot little green peppers, they are called serrano peppers here in California, or the red ones, chili peppers (I grow those in pots), raw onion, and something like mango or pineapple diced in pretty small pieces, and cilantro if you want an even more seasoned taste. I would definitely investigate some of the spicier ethnic foods - spicy Indian or Thai dishes would really jazz things up. Also, if you learn to make different kinds of spicy sauces, you could put them on any kind of lean protein. Yogurt based sauces are good, too - plain yogurt with a lot of raw garlic in it - I don't know why you couldn't put chilis in it, too.
Hope it gives you a re few new ideas.
