One of my biggest problems is always extreme binge eating. I always do fine for about a week, eating very, very healthy and small portions, but then I'll just snap and begin eating everything in sight for about a day and a half. I always feel like I need to eat as much junk food as I can in that time because I know that the next day I will have to go back to my very strict eating. I always recover from these binges and go back but they slow down my overall weight loss speed greatly, make me hate myself for a few days and make me feel as though I haven't learned anything even after doing this for over a year and losing 70 pounds. Binging like this makes me feel like I have no self-control when I know I do since I have lost so much already. Anyone have any tips or stories about this? Thanks!
(P.S I am now 142 pounds and hope to reach 130 by April 1st).

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

If you're binges are craving based. Oh my goodness can I relate. I LOVE chocolate. My most successful strategy yet has been to plan my binges. Sounds counter intuitive but if I know I've got a treat day coming (at the end of each 6 week goal session) it makes it easier day to day. I had a treat day last week. It spilled over into two day and cost me a pound. On day one I had a piece of chocolate torte while out for lunch. On day two I had 4 chocolate caramels. What I haven't done since the beginning of the year is scarf an ungodly amount of junk so quickly I can't even enjoy it. I succeeded a whole once in a row but it's the plan I'm sticking with. Don't know if that helps you any but I hope so.
I try to keep the things out of the house that would be tempting. One way of rewarding myself for eating right is to have a guilt free chocolate frosty, the Wendy's knock off that has a minimum of calories and fat, etc. If you havne't heard of it, it's just a sliced up frozen banana, Tablespoon or two of plain cocoa and some stevia or something you use in place of sugar. Also tastes good with frozen blueberries in it. You can play around with ice too. Some like several ice cubes. I use my nutribullet/magic bullet.
Oh, another idea, is to make some salsa. It's a great snack on gluten free crackers or if you like that kind of thing on different foods. So easy to make too.
I wholeheartedly believe that this is the best way to deal with binges. No, you won't be losing 2 lbs a week or more, but I was losing about 5 lbs a month and never had bad cravings or wanted to binge like I used to.
(Ha ha, then I fell off the wagon completely and gained 12 lbs that I'm still battling...)
But there is such a thing as too strict and it might be that you're hitting that wall!
