Recommendations regarding wines:
White wine is considered best for women because it is apparently less aging. (That must be for women who are going to have more than one glass).
Red wine - 4 oz. - per evening is recommended for a healthy heart.
Here is the key to wine and weight. Alcohol can make some people depressed (I contribute this to additives). Depression many times leads to overeating.
American wines have sulfites in them.
If you are going to have a glass of wine you should find a nice wine made in Australia or Germany with no sulfites.
Always read the labels.
My suggestion is to drink white and red with the appropriate meal - i.e. red with beef, white with fish or chicken. Keep away from the sulfites.
Light a candle, put on some music and enjoy your wine with a meal. Use it as a food.
Bon Appetit

But - probably the bigger thing is - does it lead to eating more without restraint cos you are tiddly? Like - cheese n wine, cheese n olives, cheese n crisps.....whoops!
I do drink a fair bit of red but I also know it stops me nibbling in the evenings. I don't like wine and sweet stuff, so I only have the drink.
I worry, though, about the alcohol pickling my liver.
Dr O.
The real problem lies with the alcohol. Aside from having a caloric density of 7 cals per gram - second only to fats - alcohol also interferes with the liver's ability to metabolize fats (hence the "beer bellies"). By some estimates, the alcohol content in a single drink can stop 100 calories of fat from being metabolized. So a 140 calorie glass of wine ends up being effectively 240 calories.
But as I said, this is only important if you are cutting. Right now, I enjoy a glass of port or red wine. Come January - its hands off.
Many years ago when I did WW, I would enjoy spirits and be okay on program. I think it's all within moderation.
Something I found amusing. I found that a Coors Light Beer had less calories in it then an 8ounce glass of Coke. Isn't that neat? So, many times I was forced with having a Coors intead of soda. Water wasn't an option.
