Dialysis Support Group
Dialysis is a type of renal replacement therapy which is used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function due to renal failure. It is a life support treatment and does not treat any kidney diseases. Dialysis may be used for very sick patients who have suddenly lost their kidney function or for quite stable patients who have permanently lost their kidney...
Im way over weight, i need to lose over a 100 pounds. So i will keep u up dated on what works for me.
Hang in there, it will balance in time, be patient with yourself my friend.
My friends hang in there, take one day at a time, we found when you first start on PD the weight went up, have now got it more stable. Be patient with yourself, love yourself, dialysis to live don't live to dialysis.
I still rejoice when someone gets a transplant and their life changes yet again.
The fatigue by itself would be hard to work with while trying to lose weight so try not to be so tough on yourselves. 50 Lbs is nothing to sneeze at and you should be proud of yourself. I know now that all the extra fluids are off and you are working on the mean and lean....and of course the fat, it slows down and takes more effort and time. In respect to that, any of us that are trying to lose weight whether we are on dialysis or not face the same demons and they can be very cruel!
Has anyone of you looked into the 17 day diet that they have had on the Doctors show and Dr. Phil? I have been wanting to check into it but I know that any program would have to be modified for a person on dialysis and again depending on the type of treatment you are on.
You people keep your chin up. It sounds like things are coming along some. They just don't come fast enough for us. That much I completely understand and we need each other for support because as much as I do not like to admit it, there are those people out there that do not have to wrestle with weight issues. I'd like to say I'm proud for them but I would be telling a great big lie!!! Truth is, I resent it terribly!! Not proud to admit that but felt I needed to be honest!
All I do know is that we just have to take day by day. I know its said often but I do not know any other way.
Take care and I wish ALL Of us success even if its baby steps.
Good Luck
