Way to Say Mind Your Own Business?

Hi, just need a moment to vent here about people who tell you what you should do, and are NOT even diabetic tjhemselves! Today I decided to get myself a Diet Soda for the first time in 6 months since I have been diagnosed. I have not been feeling well, just one of those "bugs" going around, and decided that a soda might help. Well of course, I ran into a neighbor in the building who immediately informed me that soda is bad for you. Gee, you think? I decided to agree with her and explained that it was my first one in months, and I thought I could handle it. Well she just never shut up, drawing othr people who were on the elevator into the discussion too. I really wanted to tell her to just shut up and mind her own business! It is hard enough to suddeny become diabetic, re-vamp your whole way of eating and living without these people "helping" you. Anybody else having this problem?

no, you are not alone. I think people may feel they are compelled to "help" you or make you feel less of your self. I know many don't even realize what they are doing and probably forgot the people who did it to them.

I was just diagnosed and my favourite line is well, my cat said it was ok. They just shut up. We have to watch what we eat, but that goes with everyone. You know what works for you.

People are so judgmental about Type 2 Diabetes. As the title of Robin Roberts' new book states, "Everybody's Got Something". Haven't read it, but love the title and the author.

I loved Diet Cokes and drank at least 3 a day, every single work day for decades. Didn't think I could give them up, but I moved north a few yrs ago and they are bottled here using well water, which I can't stand. That took care of that problem :)

I absolutely hate that critical and haughty stuff and people especially get caught up in it in groups, as on the elevator - it feels like they're ganging up. It wasn't heroin, it was Diet Coke. lol

Yuckh I really can't stand "health nazis" as I call them... adopting a healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself is important, but a lot of people who don't have diabetes or weight problems seem to think it's their business to "counsel" or lecture people who they think, just from looking at them or seeing them only ONCE ever, are not taking care of themselves. Your health is exactly that, it's YOUR health, and it's no concern of other people's. I agree with all the posts that have already been posted... just letting them know that they need to mind their business is effective, and it probably feels really good to to say that lmao

I really love this topic! I cannot tell you how many times I have felt like giving someone the 'one finger salute' when they insist on sharing their vast medical knowledge with me.....

I once had a person who had diabetes and was not in control make a remark about what I was eating. I asked him what was his morning fasting (said it was 320 !!!) then said when you get your numbers lower than mine then maybe you can tell me what I could eat or not

Best answer is to look thoughtful and say, "How interesting. Thank you for offering your support. I can use all the support I can get. I appreciate your input and will share it with my doctor next time I see him/her." If they insist, or say, "Why are you still eating/drinking that," the response is, "Well, I have a disease and I just told you I'll be discussing it with my doctor. Thank you for your support." And go your merry way. People really are trying to be helpful, even tho they're clueless. Being mean to them doesn't help. They want to be noticed, appreciated and thanked for butting in. Don't get caught up in the drama. Be nice and keep doing what you're doing.

    I had gone to the grocery store.  When I wheeled my cartback to my car I just stool there a minute.  A few spacesaway a Tesla Cyber truck was parked.  I had seen it on theroad a few times for a few seconds.  But not close up.It looked like it belonged to 2126 and not 2026.  I wasgoing to take a picture of the car but the owners cameback and drove away.  It was an ordinary middle age...
